Having a baby has completely shifted my focus in life. Now, instead of worrying about myself and Dow, I worry about little man, particularly his sleeping, eating, peeing and pooping habits. When Liam was born, and until he was about 6 weeks old, he was a great sleeper for a newborn. He would sleep 4-5 hours at a time. However, at about 6 weeks this changed. He started waking up more frequently during the night (I'm talking about every 1-2 hours) wanting to eat. It was exhausting, but I figured he would grow out of it. Babies hit a growth spurt around 6 weeks, and all they want to do during growth spurts is eat. I thought once this spurt was done, he'd return to is normal habits. Not so.
Then, we went to Bastrop for a week. At the time, letting Liam sleep with my parents in their king-sized bed seemed like a good idea. Liam was only waking up once during the night, and I was getting some much needed sleep while my mom took the night shift. Once we returned to Birmingham, I realized this Bastrop sleeping arrangement had been a really BAD idea. Liam no longer wanted to be in his crib. Put him in his crib, he screamed bloody murder. Put him in my bed, he went to sleep almost immediately. Let's just say we had some long nights since our Bastrop trip.
BUT..........................
Now he has slept through the night in his crib since Sunday! That is five entire nights of only waking up once around 5:30 or 6! Woohoo! I hope it lasts for a while. Once teething starts, which I am dreading by the way, I think we'll be back to those fussy nights.
Oh, the joys of parenthood!
